Poem for President Cory Aquino - LUHA NA HINDI PARA KAY PRESIDENT CORY

Pagiging asawa, ina, at lola namatatag at pambihira

Kanyang buong buong maiintindihan

Poem for President Cory Aquino - Para Kay Cory Aquino

Para Kay Cory Aquino
Ako ay may iniidolo
Ang pangal niya'y Cory Aquino
Una siyang nating babaeng pangulo
sa Pilipinas kung saan ako'y tumubo
Dalawanpu't dalawang taon na ang nakalipas
pamahalaang diktaturyal kanyang pinalayas
and laging kasuotang dilaw
and naging simbolo ng demokrasyang kanyang ipinaibabaw
ako'y napaluha at napatanong

Poem for President Cory Aquino - Ma'am Cory

Ma'am Cory

Ilaw ka ng aking Bayang kinagisnan
Haligi't suhay ng Demokrasya sa Silangan
Ina, Gabay , Pinuno, lahat iyong ginampanan

Bagkos kami'y Pinagkaisa't Ipinagkapit-bisig

Dahil dito'y bumangon kaming mahihirap

And dasal mong mapabuti and baway naming tahanan
ibabalik namin sayo, dahil ikaw at higit naming kailangan

Farewell Philippine Rose, Poem for President Cory Aquino

Farewell Philippine Rose

Farewell Philippine Rose,
The nation mourns over your death
Your flocks of sheep weep and lament
Because they lose a good sheperd

Farewell Philippine Rose,
Mother of democracy, defender of peace,
champion of rights, guardian of peace,
light of the nation, pillar of strength.

Farewell Philippine Rose,
Your flowers never whither,
Faith, fairness, honesty,
courtesy,courage and simplicity.

Farewell Philippine Rose,
Forever you will be in our hearts
Farewell Philippine Rose
Farewell and thank you.

Pinoys in Saipan hold Mass in honor of Cory

SUSUPE, Saipan – Regina Tambo, 59, was holding back her tears when the church choir sang “Inay" (Mother) during the offertory at a memorial Mass Friday night in the US island of Saipan in honor of the late former Philippine President Corazon “Cory" Aquino.

“She’s a mother to all of us," said Tambo, referring to Aquino, who rose to world fame by leading a bloodless revolt that steered the Philippines from military rule to a democracy in 1986 after her husband – then the strongest opposition to a former dictatorial leader – was shot dead at the tarmac returning home from exile.

Tambo was one of the hundreds of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), Filipino-Americans and other indigenous residents of Saipan in the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) who attended the special 7:30 p.m. Mass at the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa for the late icon of democracy.

What was also touching was the Gloria Dei Choir’s singing of Bayan Ko (My Country), followed by Sa Ugoy ng Duyan by one of the choir members at the end of the Mass.

Another OFW, Mon Badiola, 42, said he was at EDSA in 1986 when the People Power Revolution took place, so Aquino’s death, her legacy and the special Mass for her touched him deeply.

“Filipinos on Saipan value what Cory had done for the country. I’ve always been a fan of Cory. She’s an ideal leader, God-fearing, God-centered," said Badiola, who left the Philippines in 1991 to work in Saudi Arabia and Taiwan, went back home, before coming to Saipan.

Badiola, of Lucban, Quezon, just like many others, wore yellow shirts or wore stickers with the face of Aquino. The late president was known for sporting yellow clothes during EDSA days, and had since become her signature color.

Olive Yana, president of the United Filipino Organization in Saipan, was also holding an enlarged photo of the late president during and after the Mass.

Father Ryan Jimenez of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, in an interview with GMANews.TV after the Mass, said he and the other Filipino priests in the CNMI were honored to have Bishop Tomas A. Camacho celebrate the Mass in solidarity with the Filipino people in the whole world.

Ten of the only 13 priests in the CNMI are Filipinos.

“I’m personally grateful for the turnout. This was much more than what we expected," said Jimenez.

The newly arrived Philippine Consul General to the CNMI, Medardo G. Macaraig, who was one of the Mass attendees along with his family, said it’s an “honor for the Philippines" to have the bishop of the CNMI preside over a Mass in Aquino’s honor.

“It shows the international caliber of the reputation of President Aquino. Her reputation goes beyond borders," Macaraig told GMANews.TV.

Other Philippine government officials in the CNMI were also at the Mass, including labor attaché Joann Lourdes Lavilla and welfare officer Reynaldo Tayag.

Saipan, the capital of the CNMI, is only about three hours away by plane from Manila. It is home to some 10,000 OFWs and Filipino-Americans.

10 new ways to save cash in Dubai, UAE

We asked the experts, they told us how to save dosh. Job done

1 If you are regularly transferring money between currencies don’t assume they will do you a good deal. Look around for a specialist bank, or an exchange centre, some of which might even do it over the telephone and save you a whole lot of cash.

2 If your journey passes three Salik tolls (maximum) each way, five days a week, that works out as Dhs480 a month. If you allow yourself a little extra time to do a slightly longer route, say 20 minutes and 20km a day, you could save Dhs23 a day and Dhs460 in a month.

3 This is a make-money-after-you’ve-spent-it-all tactic. Scour your house for everything that you bought on impulse and don’t use. What do you need a PDA for when you have a Blackberry? Has your baby started walking and left you with a pram in near mint condition? Collect all the stuff you don’t need and put them for sale online.

4 Keep an eye on Time Out every week, our listings sections are full of deals and offers that can help you save dough. We’re regularly giving away completely free gifts from cupcakes, to exercise classes, to desserts and more! The Time Out City Card is also worth a mint. Apply for one (for free!) and get up to 50 per cent off food and drink in various restaurants and spas, with more deals being added all the time.

5 If you have investment and insurance policies, how are they paid? It is quite common in the UAE to pay these by credit card or standing order, both of which have charges. Instead, pay by cheque. Write them about 6-12 months in advance, and it will cost you nothing. Even bills can be paid this way. Oh and cut those credit cards now!

6 Consider subscribing to cable TV and renting more DVDs. Pairing that with takeaways will save that Dhs800-1,000 a month you spend on eating out. You can find affordable cable subscriptions under Dhs100 (with the most expensive being Dhs300) per month or rent DVDs from Al Mansoor Video at Dhs100 for 15.

7 Alywyn Owen, an independent financial advisor, (www.dubaifinancialadvice.com) will review all your small print – your life assurance and health care cover – for free, to make sure you’re getting the best deal. If you’re satisfied with what he does, he charges henceforth.

8 Most hypermarkets including Carrefour and LuLu send their deals of the week to your doorstep. Scour their offers that week and buy only when the offer is on, and in bulk (with items such as shampoos, soaps and tissue).

9 Apart from whatever accounts you may have here, save your money in an offshore bank. Think of it as a virtual money box, in a safe haven outside of the UAE. Even if you move away from Dubai, you can then keep saving into it for as long as you wish.

10 Talk to your colleagues at work and find out if you can set up a car pool as this will cut down on fuel, Salik and car parking fees. Agree not to talk, if you’re not a morning person!
