Launching of the Philippine E-Passport

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led the launching of DFA’s Electronic Passport or the E-Passport. The President also graced the photo exhibit on the history of passport. The chief executive undertakes E-passport application through E-passport biometric data capture.
In a short program at the DFA Auditorium, the President gave conferment of presidential awards to Assistant Secretary Domingo Lucenario Jr – Sikatuna Award and Lakandula Award to BSP Governor Amando Tetangco, Jr.
The modernization of the passport system is in compliance with the standards set by the International Civil Aviations Organization (ICAO) where allcountries must have machine-readable passports by April 2010. (JLU)
